Service Description

Self-Myofascial Release, but perhaps not quite as you know it… What actually happens when we use a roller, massage ball or other tools on our bodies? This practical, experiential class is an introduction to fascia, self-myofascial techniques and the science behind them, without the 'breaking up knots' or 'iron out your fascia' narrative that has, till recently, dominated the fascia world. We'll explore how pressure and sensory input can influence the way we experience an area of the body, then combine these techniques with gentle movement and stretching to explore changes to mobility and range of movement. We'll work with different areas of the body, including the feet, calves, hamstrings, hips, back and shoulders, using simple techniques you can take away and use at home. It is now understood that more pressure doesn't mean more benefit, it's not longer a 'no pain no gain' approach to tissue therapy. We're not trying to hurt ourselves or force tissues to change, instead we're giving the body useful information with which to change perception, then allowing ourselves to explore movement from this new perspective. Expect rollers, balls, movement, stretching and bring your curiosity. This is a practical class for anyone who'd like to understand their body a little better and discover some simple ways to support comfortable movement. Small group, and all abilities are welcome.
